Leadership is Connection
So much of leadership in action is about connection - with others, to create cohesion, shared purpose, optimism and trust - and with ourselves, to know our confidence, humility, and integrity, so that leadership can be offered and accepted when it matters. Leadership, in fact, cannot exist without genuine, honest, and well-intentioned connection.
In the workplace, leadership through real engagement creates a faith in your capacities and that of colleagues, a sense of shared humanity, shared direction and values, and a basis for concerted effort and creativity. Leadership enables that through full participation and genuine engagement, followed by an invitation to others to take part and bring their best efforts.
Connection is integral to our fulfilment as people. It gives us a sense of belonging, of being understood and accepted, of being heard and valued. It gives us interpersonal safety to learn, grow and make mistakes; it brings out the best in us.
It is no accident that healthy attachment is essential to the emerging person.
For me personally, the significance of a sense of connection has always been a strong force in giving meaning to life - real connections to others, to my own self, and to the world in which I live.
We all hunger for connectedness at work, as much as in the rest of our lives. Leadership enables and expresses it.
My Vision
is for organisations where leadership can be found at all levels; everyone participates fully; people engage with each other openly, honestly, skilfully and with consideration and compassion; where people support each other; where everyone is constantly learning useful things; and where a high-performing people system underpins the organisation's capability and performance.
My Mission
is to work closely and openly with clients to design and facilitate strong and important learning and development - as individuals, business teams and as organisations; to help them build powerful, positive leadership and relational dynamics; to help them enact realistic, grounded and real-time relationships ... so that the human environment is safe, energetic, creative, satisfying, fulfilling and enjoyable.
