Rachel Carson
Rachel Louise Carson (1907 – 1964) was an American marine biologist and conservationist whose book Silent Spring and other writings are credited with advancing the global environmental movement and led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Her leadership was characterised by a passion for important causes outside herself, and courage in the face of strong opposition. Her influence on the world was enormous.
The human race is challenged more than ever before to demonstrate our mastery, not over nature but of ourselves.
